It's raining rain! Hallelujah it's raining rain! We woke up in Bordeaux to our first experience of rain in Europe. Being the desert dwellers we are, we were not equipped for the cascade of water falling around us, so we had to buy an umbrella and cappuccinos to warm up. We were in a great location to see some photo worthy spots like the Fuente de las tres Gracias, a fountain depicting the three graces, and The Miroir d'eau, or the water mirror. The water mirror was perfect for taking pictures since it reflects the building behind it so clearly! Ryan was quite happy with the shots he got. Our main fun in Bordeaux came from visiting the La Cite Du Vin! A strangely shaped wine museum. The building is supposed to look like wine being poured into a glass but Ryan and I both thought it bore more resemblance to a foot. In the wine museum we got to go through an interactive exhibit that taught us all about wine history and how wine is made. My favorite part of the museum was a wall with a bunch of different sized screens on it. All the screens would show different parts of a painting. The painting would shift into another after a few seconds, but all the art depicted wine. While this was happening there were lines of poetry being recited. The poetry wasn't from one source and it was very hypnotizing to hear lines from different writers, and works put together to create one expression about wine. I thought the display did a good job of capturing the diverse relationship that people continue to have with wine while underlining our unity in that, no matter what it is, we all can have a relationship with wine. We drink it when we celebrate, when we're sad, when we're in love. We gift wine to our friends when they move into a new space and we drink wine in front of the tellie after a long day. Wine doesn't shape our lives but the space we leave for it is often one of significance, a drink is a day, is a moment, is a drop in our small glass of life. Meanwhile Ryan was busy huffing scented air out of a gramophone.

We also got two free glasses of wine and drank them on top of the strangely shaped building while admiring the city. We walked an hour back to our hotel afterwards and ended our evening in our most traditional fashion, with pizza and a movie.

Also happy birthday to my Dad who I love and miss, send him some love if you can! πŸ’ŒπŸ’ŒπŸ’Œ
