I got off the plane tired. We'd spent the night before in Luton Airport since our flight to Iceland was pretty early in the morning. Sleep had evaded me, and my fatigue was quickly spiraling into delirium. My alter ego slowly surfacing, the dreaded Grumblepuss! But there was one thing I had to do before my mind slipped away- I'd been studying for this. Ryan turned his head just in time to see me scurry into the Duty Free. Alcohol is very expensive in Iceland, unless you buy it at Duty Free in the airport. I couldn't let this tidbit of studying go to waste. The last thing I remember was stuffing the bottle into my bag at the check out, and then the Grumblepuss was in control.

I came to my senses in a local brewery as a very nice man placed a bowl of butternut squash risotto in front of me. I looked up wistfully, "We're in Iceland Ry." Ryan wiped a tear from his eye, "I knew you'd come back to me Em. We made it... "... Well maybe he said something more along the lines of "There see! you finally eat something and it's like you've had a freaking exorcism!". After a meal we wandered around Reykjavik to get the vibe. The vibe ended up leading us to a local theatre where Pussy Riot was set to perform that night! Being the lovers of women, basic humans rights, and Ukraine (your vodka slaps Ukraine, we love you), coupled with our utter disgust for Putin, of course I bought tickets for it on the spot.

The show was powerful, I cried like three times. The women were pure embodiments of the feminine rage. Their movements and words were beautiful, forceful and absolutely unyielding. I have so much awe for people who are really out there fighting oppression, people who Tyrants fear. I would love to participate more in activism, voting is important but sometimes it just doesn't feel like enough.

After the concert, we walked along the waterside back to our Airbnb. For a city it was quiet, and the night sky was clear, cloudless. Ryan was the first to find them. Dancing above our heads, green, yellow almost red. The northern lights. "See,"- they glimmered "not so hard to find us.". We watched them flitter for a long time, I could have watched them all night. It really was a performance to see, a dance that illuminated the sky.

The look for the concert!

We tried to take a pic
