The Mid-Atlantic Ridge, partly located in Thingvellir National Park was a must see for Ryan, and it's easy to understand why! This impressive spine of basalt is one of the only places in the world where the Mid-Atlantic ridge is accessible above the ocean! We walked along the top and bottom of the ridge, taking in the colossal formation. The way the basalt stood so tall and structured looked akin to castle ruins in England, overgrown with moss and all.

This park also holds Iceland's biggest lake, "Þingvallavatn" (can you figure out how that one's pronounced? 😏). We walked to the lake and explored more fissures in the earth, and tried not to be completely overcome with the striking beauty of the snow dusted mountains and every color from purple to yellow kissing the landscape surrounding us. We had lunch by the lake, and I was sure there were little rocky trolls nearby scratching their mossy stomachs wishing they could get a bite of our homemade sandwiches. It was cold and windy but we warmed up that evening with some steaming hot potato soup!
